Equipment List for s/v Elegant'sea

      s/v Elegant'sea sits in a 40' foot slip in Marina de La Paz. This is the most sought after Marina in the Sea of Cortez. It is in some of the best cruising grounds in Mexico if not the world. The slip has drinkable (potable) water, and the slip fee includes electricity and WiFi. It is also a livaboard slip if you wish. We do live aboard. You can keep paying the slip fees if you buy the boat...and remember that slips are not easy to come by in the Sea of Cortez.

     There are at least three chandleries within walking distance and a watermaker store. There is all the boating services you could want in La Paz. There are restaurants and the Malecon, etc., within easy walking distance. 

Our slip has a large garden box for a dock box where we keep our dock cart and a lot of other things for easy access. 

     We're only the second owner of this beautiful vessel. We have an extensive blog with over 4,000 entries of posts with pretty much everything we have fixed and installed over our 17 years of ownership. This includes pictures and videos along with links to product vendors. This boat is set-up to cruise Mexico, for instance, lightly used Kayak, Stand-up paddle board, racks for each, dinghy and outboard with motorized davits made to use with the drop-down transom, extensive cockpit shade and fans, stern shower and the list goes on...

ANCHORING

Windlass is a Lewmar H3 windlass.

• Windlass has the optional hand crank for emergency.
• Hand held wired remote in anchor locker - replaced 2025.

Stern anchor Windlass with washdown for anchor and rode.

• Custom stern roller for anchor rode.
• Stern anchor is a Fortress #16 with 20' of 5/16 chain and 300 ft of Samson ½ Deep Six Anchor Line. It is 6 plat line that will not "bird nest", like new, spliced to chain.

Both Windlass' have brakers etc and heavy duty wiring.

Replaced 1/2 inch anchor locker drain with 3/4 inch for better draining.

Stainless steel 8 inch cleat added to anchor locker.

A/C AND HEAT
Mermaid Marine Air 5200 btu HVAC w/digital thermostat - this unit is in the stateroom and cools both the stateroom and the head.
Mermaid Marine Air 12000 btu w/digital thermostat - this unit is in the salon and can cool just the saloon/settee/galley or the whole boat.

Each unit is completely separate from the other.
If it is not super hot then the 12000 btu can cool the whole boat. Because electricity can be expensive, the stateroom can be cooled by itself at night. No need to cool the whole boat. Also, you can always have a cool place to sleep if a unit should stop working.

You can customize how they run so one is not cycling a lot etc.

Each unit has a Easy Start which makes it possible to run either unit from the Honda Generator in Eco Mode. This is important because the generator will use less gas, make less noise and last longer. There is also an extended run setup for the generator so it will run all night easily. The  Micro-AirEasyStarts soft starter also makes the AC units start up quieter and last longer.

Each unit has it's own March Pump.
Each unit can be fresh water flushed for storing by just turning a couple of valves.

We have a system to flush units with acid to keep the running cool and pumping lots of water.

COCKPIT

DAVITS

Kato Marine Island Davits - We custom designed the Davits to fit the Islander Freeport. They have extra support from the stern mounts to stern chain plates. They lift the dinghy up high enough so you can use the stern steps while the dinghy is up on the davits. The dinghy is drawn in close to the davits when raised so it does not flail around. We have sailed with the outboard on the dinghy while up on the davits without a problem.

Garmin GMR 18 xHD radar dome - New in 2021

This 18” high-definition radar dome works great for anchoring, showing distances between boats rocks etc.

Has many nice functions and alarms. Can turn on for a period of time, say 20 min and then go into standby mode saving power. Great for overnight passages.

Garmin Under Deck Autopilot - quiet and rated for a larger boat.

AIS - Vespa AIS WatchMate XB-8000 Smart AIS Transponder with WiFi and NMEA 2000 Gateway (now owned by Garmin).

• Two Caframo Ultimate 757 12V 2-Speed 7 inch Fans in cockpit. Custom mounted up inside bimini. Great addition to cockpit comfort.
• Three new in 2025 Caframo Sirocco fans installed replacing older Bora fans. These new fans are bigger, swivel every which way and have timers. Very nice. Black one for salon, black one for stateroom and white one for the head.

• Stove is fully gimbled. Also has pan holders so they do not slide around.

Custom-made propane box in port lazerett to hold two 11lb steel LPG cylinders. 

• Has a automatic swicthover regulator if one bottle empties. They last us at least four months.
• Propane Gas Leak Sniffer Detector.

• Propane detector so you can shut off propane to the stove for safety.

Refer - FridgeBoat with keel cooler. We completely re-built using Dow Blue Board for insulation and then fiberglassing over.

• Works on spillover method. The keel cooler works with no moving parts, quiet.
• We can keep ice cream in the freezer in over 100 deg temperatures with over 80 deg water temperatures.

• DC-AC changeover box. This will automatically switch the refer from AC when at the marina when the shore power is on or when running the Honda generator with shore power chord pluged to it - the refer will automatically run  on shore power (AC power) saving the batteries. If you unplug the shore power cable then the refer automatically switches to DC and runs off the house batteries.
